Teen Receives $90,000 instead of PS2.

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

British teenager who bought a Sony Playstation 2 on eBay for £95 ($194) got more than he bargained for when he opened the package. Instead of a shiny, happy gaming console, there was a whole heap of euros - €65,400 ($90,000) to be precise—stacked neatly inside. A spokesman for eBay said that the parcel’s contents were “somewhat unusual,” but that they would help the police in any way they could. When the parcel arrived, on March 20, the boy’s parents contacted the Norfolk Constabulary, who are now holding the money under the Proceeds of Crime Act. If the owner does not come forward by September 22, then the family can apply to have the cash returned to them—unless the police apply to hold onto the money for a longer period.

None the Wiser

Friday, December 15th, 2006

So I got all four wisdom teeth taken out this morning. And let me tell you, it sucks.

Basically I went in there and got nitrus (laughing gas). My arms got numb. It made me a little dizzy, but mostly numb. I was completely aware of what was going though, just a little less observant of the pain.

The had to dig. I’m tellin’ ya. They dug out those teeth. I recall the surgeon pull one out and say “that’s a big, ugly tooth”. The last one was the killer though. They had to keep giving me more topical stuff to numb my gums because it hurt. Turns out the roots on that tooth were slightly curved (well, 90 degrees of a curve, so very curved) which made it come out harder.

I finished and it wouldn’t stop bleeding. Still is a little.

Feels like I’m missing four teeth. Really wierd.

I don’t recommend it.

I’m Un-Unemployed

Friday, December 15th, 2006

So yeah, I went home and wept, crying myself to sleep.

I got a job. Basically I originally had an interview at the Peoria Public Lirbary like three weeks ago. I didn’t get hired, but apparently the person who gave me my first interview recommended me to another department. The other department gave me a interview yesterday and hired me on the spot.

Basically I’ll be working in the Arts and Music department on the Main Branch (downtown) of Peoria Public Library on the second floor. It’s the section where people can check out artwork, music, audiobooks and movies. Yup.

So yeah, pretty amazing. Perhaps now I can afford breakfast every once in a while.

AOL Leaks Data

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

The data on over 650,000 users has been leaked from AOL.

The data has been taken down from AOL, but there is at least one mirror site where anyone can download it if they desire.

Much of the data includes personal names, addresses, social security numbers, search data, and more.

There’s some pretty scary search out here. Here’s some of the worse stuff:

Okay, I won’t make this list too extensive, but it contains the top 20 or so songs that I enjoy. I would highly recommend each and ever one. I’ll give you the name and artist/band. Just about all of these songs are either “depressing” or “inspirational.” Check one of them out if you have the time - or check all of them out. That’d be sweet.

If I ever get a tattoo

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

If I ever get a tattoo, it’s likely to be something like this:

Basically it’s hidden unless you’re in the dark. It’s sort of like glow in the dark. haha. It actually uses blacklight reactive ink that reacts to UV light. Pretty sweet.

In all reality, I doubt I’d ever get a tattoo. And if I did, it probably be your generic style - but nonetheless, this is still pretty sweet.

The Hype: Likely to be in the very top 3 films of 2007, this is the epic conclusion to the already fantastic adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. The second film ended in a cliffhanger and left everyone yelling for more, and At World’s End will most likely be just as enticing as everyone wants it to be.

Priest

Release Date: August 17, 2007
Director: Andrew Douglas
Starring: Gerard Butler, Steven Strait
Synopsis: A priest disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.

Either way, the movie will be a must-see that will last for months in the theatre - the same way Shrek 2 was.

Sunshine

Release Date: March 16, 2007
Director: Danny Boyle
Starring: Rose Byrne, Cliff Curtis, Chris Evans, Troy Garity, Cillian Murphy
Synopsis: 50 years into the future, the Sun begins to die, and Earth is dying as a result. A team of astronauts are sent to revive the Sun.
The Hype: A sci-fi thriller from the director of 28 Days Later that focuses more on the psychological horror / thriller side of the story than sci-fi elements. From a behind-the-scenes video put out by Danny himself, the movie will certainly captivate all of us and should be an interesting release.

There Will Be Blood

Release Date: 2007
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Starring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano

The Hype: An adaptation of a novel by Upton Sinclair and directed by the guy behind Boogie Nights and Magnolia comes this film about family, greed, religion, and oil. May be an epic drama worth its penny when it comes out next year.

So yeah, I just won $1,000 cash and $4,169 worth of prizes….

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Yep. Tis true. Over at Earner’s Forum they held a contest that lasted about a month. I’m number three of five winners.

To be honest, after the contest was stretched to last for a month I almost gave up. I had no intention of spending all my spare time for a month on something like this - but in the last few days before it ended, I decided I might just have a chance. Turns out, I was right. I had a decent combination of “points” - nearly 1000 posts, 1000 points worth of articles, 1 blog post (here) and about 2 referrals. It paid off.

I’m excited about this, yet somehow awkwardly calm.

Anyway, I’m not sure of about how I’m going to use the prize money. The two most valuable prizes, in my opinion, are the $1,000 cash and the niche website which is, in theory, already making money and getting traffic. In time, this should pay off well if I maintain it right.

I suppose with this I’ll either invest the money into my existing sites, particularly my Philosophy Forum. If not that, I’ll invest it into a computer with some decent features that I need.

Anyway, just an update on it. Thank you all. :P

The Ant Bully

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

Last weekend I went out with the family and guess what movie we saw? Ant Bully. Fun fun fun. Surprisingly though, it wasn’t that bad.

Basically it’s about this kid who “picks on” ants, until the ants make him ant-sized. He then most “become an ant” buy fitting in with the ant collony. The movie ends with the boy (still ant sized) and the bugs teaming together to fight the “bel-ze-bug” exterminator.

antbully

It was mediocre, but as child animiated movies go, it wasn’t all that bad.

Click, Starring Adam Sandler

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

click

I saw Click a week or two again a few days after it’s release, but haven’t got around to reviewing it until now. All in all, it was a decent movie. At first it will appear like a comedy, which it is, but it is really much more. If you can see past the crude humor and sexual content, it’s really a great movie that has a moral story to it. More or less, it is a drama.

A quick rundown of the show:

Michael Newman, played by Adam Sandler is more or less in a mid-life crisis until he is given a “magic” remote control that can pause, stop, rewind or fast forward time. At first this is a blessing, but turns into a curse in disguise. He takes it for granted, and before he can stop it his life is years and years into the future.

All in all this was a good show that is equally balanced between humor and drama. I would recommend the movie, though I would suggest you wait for it to be out on Video or DVD rather than watch it on the big screen.
